The incurable ,degenrative and terminal disease Alzheimer’s finds hope in coffee consumption.Caffeine an antioxidant present in coffee(the chemsitry behind its antioxidant effects appears in ACS’journal of Physical Chemistry B.) was considered to protect against Alzheimer’s but now the role of other ingredients along with caffeine is studied and the findings of this research would be published soon.
Caffeine’s Health benefits
Most of the people love to begin their day with a cup of coffee and this habit of drinking coffee proves to be beneficial in health aspects due to the antioxidants present in it.This high level of antioxidants helps in fighting Alzheimer’s disease by scavenging the free radicals that cause damage to our body and by decreasing the amount of beta-amyloid protein which is considered to cause Alzheimer’s. Caffeine has got good neuroprotective profile and has a positive impact on memory performance and cognition. Annia Galano and Jorge Rafael León-Carmona describe theoretical evidence suggesting that coffee is one of the richest sources of healthful antioxidants in the average person’s diet. In their study they have described the theoretical calculation of caffeine’s interaction with free radicals which scientifically shows consistency with other researches carried out by scientists on animals.
USF study on Coffee
Researches at the ‘University of South Florida’ in their study of effects of coffee on alzheimer mouse and provided evidence that an unidentified component in coffee which along with caffeine boosts the levels of critical growth factor in body (GCSF-found in decreased amount in Alzheimer patients) which fights the alzheimers. The chemistry behind this is yet to be understood. “Caffeinated coffee provides natural increase in blood GCSF levels,” said USF neuroscientist Dr. Chuanhai Cao, lead author of the study.Researchers look forward to identify the yet to be indetified mystery component so that people can be benefited by the supplementation of other drinks with this magic component.Scientists indicate that the clinical findings for the effect of coffee on humans will be published soon.Caffeine, present in coffee provides better level of protection when compared to other caffeinated drinks.
Intake level
Why not sip a drink which is refreshing, inexpensive and easily available which also has medicinal values? Essential intake of coffee (4 to 5 cups a day) is safe and necessary to protect against Alzheimer’s disease. The average American drinks 1½ to 2 cups of coffee a day, considerably less than the amount the researchers believe protects against Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a conditon which slowly worsens, so prolonged protective therapy would prove beneficiary. So researchers recommend regular intake of coffee.
