According to latest research, half of the populations in US and a substantial amount of population in UK will be under the cloud of obesity by 2030. As of now, the number of obese people in the United States has been estimated to be 99 million. In a span of less than twenty years, this figure is expected to increase to 164 million. In the United Kingdom, the statistics are alarming but lower than that of United States. While 15 million people are obese now, by 2030, UK will have 26 million obese people. The immediate repercussion of the growth will be an increase in costs of obesity health care. The study which considered all the thirty four member countries of OECD, the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation, found that US and UK topped the list of obese people.

Statistical reports have been generated, which show that while the existing obesity percentage in American men is 32%, it will increase to 40% by 2030. The same will increase to 45% to 52% in women, the existing percentage being 35%in the UK, the percentages are lower. Obesity in men will register a hike of up to 48% from the existing 26% and in women, the percentage will rise to 43% from the present 26%. These percentages have been calculated based on the data analyzed between the years of 1993 to 2008 in UK and 1988 to 2008 in US. Results were interpolated based on the available information. The study further revealed that the biggest affect will be on the health and medicine sector. Cost of treatment of obesity related health issues which range from serous heart damage to diabetes and hypertension is expected to increase at the rate of $66billion each year, which is a significant 2.6% of the entire health care expenditure including expensive treatments for cancers and other major diseases.

The figures of UK are slightly mellow. It is expected that obesity related health care cost will increase by £2 billion every year, which in American currency comes up to $3.2 billion. Further, experts say that diseases and health disorders related to obesity will see a pronounced increase of 25%. A major part of this increase in expenditure and incidence of diseases due to obesity is attributed to an aging population. 7.8 million additional cases of diabetes, along with 6.8 million additional coronary disease cases rising due to obesity are expected in US. In comparison, 668,000 and 461,000 additional UK citizens will be affected by diabetes and coronary diseases respectively. The incidence of cancer will increase by 130,000 cases.
