Indian Council of Medical Research and India Diabetes has figured out that there were a total number of 40.9 million people suffering from diabetics by 2007 while back in 2000 the number was 31.7 million.

In order to have the second maximum number of diabetes people in rural areas Tamil Nadu came second in the list. Total 13.7 percent of people were diabetic in the urban areas of Tamil Nadu while the number was 7.8 percent in rural areas, therefore the 4.8 million of the total.
In Jharkhand the percentage in urban areas was 13.5 and in rural areas 3 percent, which meant the 0.96 million of the total number of people affected.
The prevalence in the urban areas of Maharashtra was of 10.9 percent while in rural areas it was 6.5 percent making the 6 million of the total.
