Christmas holidays are coming. It is well known that Christmas foods contain lots of fat and calories. But most recently a group of researchers after conducting a study over Christmas foods has claimed that some of the Christmas foods contain some beneficial healthy contents along with fat and calories. They have also mentioned the nutrient contents of some popular Christmas foods like turkey, red cabbage, chestnuts, dark chocolates etc.
Turkey provides a huge amount of protein. Whereas we get lots of saturated fat from red meat and lots of cholesterol from chicken, pork or beef turkey provides the nutrient content without the harmful contents that we get from red meat, chicken, pork or beef. Turkey also contains selenium and zinc which help in the growth and development of growing kids. Kids also get vitamins B3 and B6 from turkey.
In case of red cabbage researchers have mentioned that the vegetable contains Vitamin C and lots of antioxidants. Antioxidants help in slowing down the growth of some of the cancers and Vitamin C provides healthy skin and well built cartilage tissues and bones. Chestnuts, researchers have claimed are full of carbohydrates and Vitamin C, Vitamin B6 and foliate and a very little amount of fat which keep heart healthy. Chestnuts are also rich in antioxidants which prevent some of the serious diseases.
Popular Christmas food is dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is rich in magnesium and numbers of bioactive compounds. These nutrient contents are helpful to maintain healthy heart and prevent joint problems. Dark chocolate also reduces high blood pressure levels, cholesterol levels and prevents blood clots. But researchers have mentioned that people should take dark chocolate in moderate amount.
At the end comes the red wine. Red wine has resveratrol. According to researchers it is good for cardio health.
