Michelle Harvie who is a research dietician has mentioned that reducing blood sugar levels and reducing weight are two primary steps to prevent developing breast cancer but these two steps are very tough to acquire and even tougher to maintain with standard dietary methods.

The researchers group during the 4 months of the study compared the effects of total 3 dietary charts on weight loss and reduction of sugar levels in blood among 115 women. The common thing among those women was that they all had family histories of breast cancer.

One of the diet charts was a low carbohydrate diet for two days a week. The second chart included unlimited protein and healthy fat including olives and nuts and lean meats for two days a week. The last diet chart included low calorie Mediterranean diet every day. The researchers assigned the participants to the three diet charts randomly. The finding showed that the low carbohydrate dietary instruction resulted in much reduction of blood sugar levels and body weight and body fat than the other two dietary instructions. The low carbohydrate diet cut down 4 kg of weight in compared to only 2.4 kg by standard diet. The blood sugar level was cut down by 22 per cent by the low carbohydrate diet while the rest of the two diet charts resulted in 14 per cent and 4 per cent of the insulin resistance respectively.
