Obesity Is Rising Among Children In India

After a recent study researchers have disclosed the fact that obesity is rising rapidly among school children in India due to their heavy consumption of Junk Foods. Presently 15 to 21 per cent Indian school children are obese, according to the study. The researchers have also charged the sedentary life style led by children for their being obese.

The study has showed that not only the working adults, but also the school children are getting involved in life style disorder. As a result diabetes is developing among them. The researchers from the Fortis Centre of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases and Endocrinology, Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj have mentioned the study result. Anoop Misra, who is the chairman of the mentioned institute, has reported that 9 per cent of school children between the age of 9 years and 18 years are suffering from abdominal obesity, which can lead them to insulin resistance and diabetes. The researchers have also disclosed that 70 percent of school children have shown risk to develop high Blood Pressure, Diabetes and Heart Disease in older ages.

He has also informed that the rapid growth of diabetes among Indian people, even in children will dangerously decrease the life expectancy on Indians in coming 20 years.

Misra, supporting the study results said that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes would not decrease until people stay away from junk foods and restless life style. According to the study 68 per cent of children in urban areas lead life style full of disorder, eat junk foods full of sugar content without the low fat and healthy food contents full of fiber and micro nutrients.
