Ultraviolet Rays Protected Clothes

The new fabric that offers protection from UV radiations

There are several people who do not think that sunscreen is sufficient to protect them from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. Therefore, for the additional protection of these individuals, a Minneapolis-based manufacturer has discovered sun-protective clothes. These include a thigh-length Sarasota ZnO Beach cover-up, and full-length ZnO drawstring pant.Sun protection clothes becoming popular

During the last ten years, these new kinds of sun-protective clothes are becoming popular with many individuals. A survey showed that in the future almost all outdoor clothes will be made with sun-protected fabrics. There are several advantages of these clothes over the traditional sunscreen. Firstly, these do not create a mess and are not oily. Secondly, one does not have to worry about those places where you cannot reach and finally, you do not have to reapply the lotion.

UV rays are harmful to the skin

Almost none of us follow the guidelines while using the sunscreen. Even when it is applied every time we go outdoors, we do not reapply often as more lights implies more using of the lotion. The UV rays are known to be harmful to the skin and are recognized as carcinogen. The sun’s ultraviolet rays damage the DNA of the skin that leads to melanoma, basal cell cancer, and squamous cell cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, over two million Americans are affected with skin cancer every year.

Regular clothing not effective to block UV rays

The regular clothing can offer protection against the UV rays but does not provide adequate protection. Dark colors and tighter weaved fabrics are more effective to block the sun’s rays but still are not sufficient to provide 100% protection. Therefore, the new clothes were developed in Australia to protect the skin from the harmful UV rays. The continent is close to the ozone hole, which has resulted in almost two-third of the population suffering from skin cancer by the age of 70 years.

Fabrics used to make the sun-protective apparels

The commonly used fabrics to make sun-protective clothes include polyester, nylon, and tightly woven cotton blends. These have an inherent property of providing protection from the sun’s harmful rays. In addition, the fabrics used are infused with some chemical substances for added protection. The ultraviolet blockers reflect the incoming rays while the ultraviolet absorbers collect and disperse the radiations. The sun-protective clothes manufactured by reputed companies offer 50% protection from the sun’s rays even after two years, which makes these effective and cost-efficient.
